I guess I just felt that Magary's book was more of a short story spread out into a book. Anyways, I recommend Alastair Reynold's House of Suns for a look at some truly postmortal people (in the millions of years).

The novel is filled with dark humor and less-than-optimistic predictions as to what the cure might cause. Magary does a great job hooking the reader and keeping the story rolling.
